Education: LPN and LVN training lasts about one year. There are about 1,200 state-approved programs nationwide. The three major educational paths to registered nursing are a bachelor's degree, an associate degree or a diploma from an approved nursing program.

Scope: Registered nurses constitute the largest healthcare occupation, with 2.4 million jobs. In fact, registered nurses are projected to create the second largest number of new jobs among all ccupations.
