Two Police Officers Rap and Sing Katy Perry's "Dark Horse"

Rosenberg Police Department
Police work can be, in turns, adrenaline-pumping and dull. Officers find different ways to break the tension. Sometimes, it's singing and rapping while on patrol, as reported by KPRC-TV.

Aerial Ronell and Ranell Roy, two officers from the Rosenberg, Texas Police Department, shot a video in their squad car as they lip synched to Katy Perry's hit from last year, "Dark Horse," featuring rapper Juicy J. The male voice was lip-synched by Ronell while Roy played the part of Perry. The department posted the scene on its active Facebook page. Now the duo's video has gone viral.

As of Friday morning, the original post had 22,523 likes and 90,425 shares. There is also a department YouTube page, where its "Hip Hop Cops" video has nearly 29,000 views. According to the department, there were a total or more than 1 million views in just two hours.

"We actually want to be able to show people that we're just people, just like everybody else," Ronnell said to KPRC, with Roy adding, "The message is that we're not the enemy, we're the friends of the community."

One Facebook comment from a Sonja Smith asked if Roy was single and "can Rosenberg police dept hook a single law abiding citizen up?"

Some commenters claimed that the officers were wasting money and not doing their job. The Rosenberg Police Department's account replied: "This is community policing at its best. Gain the cooperation of your citizens and they better learn how to 'police WITH us.'" But, by far, most of the comments were positive and supportive. Earlier this year, the department posted a video of an officer playing football with a local boy.

Facebook users Rebecca Elizabeth Richardson wrote: "I think this was hilarious and a great way for people to see the 'real' human side of officers. Good job you two!!"

Mixing policing and entertainment isn't new, although it usually takes a terpsichorean turn. In 2010, a New York City traffic cop at Flatbush and Fourth Avenue was caught dancing on a video. A little further north, Providence Officer Tony Lepore has made a name for himself with his dancing while directing traffic. And last year some Danish police showed their moves at a music festival.

But sometimes police literally overstep the bounds, as happened when some NYPD officers got in trouble for grinding during a parade. At least the Hip Hop Cops will avoid getting a bum rap.

Very cute. Very cool. The only people who don't like the police are the people they're chasing after.

Ah. Now I know why I always see people driving around talking on their phones or texting and not being pulled over. A few weeks ago I saw someone go right through a red light and drive past a cop waiting on the other side of the light. He did nothing. Today I watched someone roll through a stop sign in front of a cop standing outside his car because the road was closed. Again, nothing. And they get 6 figure salaries?

six figure salaries? In what state? I'd be happy to arrest or ticket everyone for that kind of money!

Most people that think like you have been in trouble cause of your smart ass ways, when you get caught by a cop. You then might be a sociopath but without a gun, but I bet you have one, so then your just a piece of ****.

I love how people will always hate on the peace officers. I hate that. They're only trying to have a good time like everyone else. They weren't on the job sorry kids.....they were on their lunch break. Police officers normally don't wear their seat belts because if they ever have to get out in a hurry and they surely wouldn't of done this on the clock. I enjoyed it and the switch up was funny. White girl rapping and the black guy singing the white girl part. Don't put them in a "group" because, I know people who hate on them are in a specific group and don't enjoy being put into one by job or race etc.

Sorry this was staged for some reason. In-car cameras face out the windshield.

Some patrol cars have two cameras: One facing forward and one facing the officer and the rear seat in order to record the officer's and/ or the rear seat "passenger's" actions outside and inside of the vehicle.

Where do they find the time to sing and make a music video when they have donut shops to visit and jay walkers to arrest? Multi-tasking at it's best!
