Lawsuit: Nursing Home Hired Strippers To Entertain Seniors

Were they stripped of their dignity?

Here at AOL Jobs, our stories sometimes fall in the middle of an occupational venn diagram, where people with vastly different jobs clash to shocking effect: EMT/Au Bon Pain worker, for instance, or the equally explosive Taco Bell President/Justin Bieber matchup. Well, we've got a new one for you, with a story that brings together the disparate worlds of retirement home employees and male strippers.

A new lawsuit claims a Long Island nursing home hired strippers "for the perverse pleasure and enjoyment of the Defendant's staff." However, a photo shows an elderly woman in a wheelchair, unaccompanied by nurses or other employees, slipping a bill into a man's two-tone briefs.

This woman is Bernice Youngblood, the 85-year-old mother of Frank Youngblood, who discovered this image among her possessions when he visited her at the East Neck Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of West Babylon last year. When he went to a nursing supervisor and demanded an explanation, she allegedly attempted to grab the photo from him.

The younger Youngblood is heading up the lawsuit, which states, "Bernice Youngblood was placed in apprehension of imminent, offensive, physical harm, as she was confused and bewildered as to why a muscular, almost nude man, was approaching her and placing his body and limbs over [her]."

The nursing home, however, has a different story. As NBC reported, they're claiming the "victims" requested the performance, which was then voted on by an activities committee.

"These are adults who wanted to have this activity, they requested it, they voted on it and the nursing home approved of it," said Howard Fensterman, an attorney representing the facility.

Youngblood, though, isn't having it. "Bernice Youngblood has lived 85 years as a traditional Baptist, hard-working lady, and now she has been defiled," John Ray, the lawyer representing the man's mother, told the New York Post.

According to Ray, Bernice Youngblood suffers from partial dementia, and "lacks the mental and physical capacity" to defend herself. At a press conference she could be seen in a wheelchair alongside her family members, barely audible as she mumbled in general terms that she felt "terrible" and "ashamed."

Only she can know the truth about whether or not she enjoyed herself, or if the experience truly stripped her of her dignity. The hired entertainment, on the other hand, was only stripped of its pants.

Why? Aren't the resident adults? Don't want your elderly parents thinking for themselves, then YOU take care of them rather than warehousing them in a home.

I think this is hilarious and probably a really good thing. I can't think of a senior who would object to this kind of entertainment once in a while

This is some 'loser' son who saw an opportunity to make some $$$$ off his mother ! She was 'shown' putting money in this strippers underwear. I DONT see a pistol on her MAKING her do that. I'm SURE the seniors ALL had fun. Hopefully he will LOSE the rest of the non money he has left on this ridiculous case !

OMG! If they had a good time, what did it hurt? They are 'seniors' after-all. They're definitely old enough to enjoy a stripper, if they want. This son can be commended for watching out for his parent but lighten up, dude. Sex is natural and there's nothing wrong with enjoying a young, firm body gyrating around, if that's what you like.

Yeah, "Mom" enjoyed it. That's why she kept the picture. I worked in nursing homes. A stripper sure beats the residents sitting in wheel chairs all day....staring at the floor and nodding off. This society is nuts. The wrinkles of old age don't eliminate the sex drive and appreciation for sexual attractiveness.... and some fun and enjoyment. I think the nursing home should be commended. Too many do nothing enjoyable for their residents. The ones I worked in didn't even take residents shopping, to casinos, out to lunch, etc......but at least this woman's son visits her. Many in nursing don't even have family visiting them. I think most nursing homes are a miserable way to live your final days. BTW, the resident can pay as much as 6000. per month to stay in a room with 1 or 2 "roommates"....in a room barely big enough to accomodate their wheelchairs.

It sounds like the show was probably the best treatment they've gotten from a nursing home anywhere. Sounds like some prig was upset that his mother enjoyed it. Must be a "family values" Republican who acts "holier-than-thou."
