10 Children Hospitalized After Waitress Serves Alcohol

The fruit punch at Chicago's Home Run Inn is for adults only

In what's sure to be the day's most vomit-tastic story, ten children have been hospitalized after a waitress at a Chicago pizzeria accidentally served them alcohol.

The kids were at the Home Run Inn pizza restaurant in the Little Village neighborhood for a birthday party when someone mentioned that the fruit punch tasted a little unusual.

Servers rushed over to remove the drink after a concerned parent tried the beverage and confirmed that it contained alcohol.

"The drinks tasted funny to begin with. But we didn't really pay attention," Neyante Eggleston, the mother of a six-year-old boy who attended the party, told NBC. "We just thought it was us, but they just came and just swooped all the cups up. So we were like, 'Okay, what's going on?'"

> Find a job as a server

Police sources told the Chicago Tribune that the table's waitress had just served a round of juice before bringing over another drink that she didn't realize contained alcohol. Eggleston added that their server was crying after the mishap, and apologized for what had happened.

"Everybody makes mistakes," she said. "But why would you just come and snatch the cups up and not say anything to the parents of these kids you just served alcohol to? That's just bogus."

A few of the children were allegedly sick with stomach pains and vomiting, although it's unclear whether all ten of the children rushed to the hospital consumed alcohol, or whether they were only taken there as a precaution.

The kids were described by WGN-TV as being in "fair-to-good condition." Still, something tells us this is one waitress who isn't going to be receiving any exorbitant tips in her future.

why would children under the age of ten be anywhere but home in bed. Come on....the parents approve of late hours for kids.....they do more harm than a small amont of alcohol.

I hope she gets fired. HOW DUMB CAN YOU BE. It was a child's birthday party
She also needs to pay for all medical expenses for the children that went to the hospital.

This is all about potential lawsuits. When I was very young, my mother served me wine during Jewish holiday celebrations, and I never became sick.

Could you possibly make a more misleading title? Also, we've known for some time now that NONE of the children hospitalized had any alcohol in their systems. One kid took a sip, said it tasted funny, it was recovered. Kids want attention. If there's a lunar eclipse and only one kid sees it, by the end of the next school day, everyone saw it. AND a UFO! lol So, how about an update, making your story correct? Does that even matter to you?

I'm trying to think how much puch was served to these kids before some one figured out that the funny taste might be something else than punch. Most kids will not drink anything if they don't like the taste after the first swallow. I would think most parents would watch their child for any bad symptoms but not panic and rush them to the hospital.

Out of all the comments yours made the most sense, thank you for being the voice of reason. I seriously believe that what the kids endured at the hospital was definitely more traumatizing than the effects of a sip of alcohol.

Forget about the booze. These containers are NEVER cleaned and are just as bad as the reservior that holds ice for fountain drinks. Only buy bottled beverages, skipping these "welled" drinks. They are bacteria vats!

I wont drink from any kind of soda fountain they are all terrible no matter what you use to try and clean them. You ever spill soda and try to clean it after it dries you have to scrub it. I am one of those that wont eat food that was homemade other than my wife's of course even if I am there as a guest and see it immaculately clean just something messed up in my head but its one issue I like

If something tastes funny, either food or drink, stop eating or drinking it! No brainer really.
