Out of the ten most popular jobs in America today, nine are "relatively low paying," according to a new report released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The top three are essentially retail positions: retail salesperson, cashier and food preparation and serving worker. These employees make an average annual salary of $25,000 or less. Registered nurses are the outlier, bringing home an average salary of almost $70,000.
These ten occupations account for 21 percent of the total workforce. The average wage of all employment is $22.33 per hour or $46,440 annually.
The highest paying occupations are in management, legal, computer and mathematical,
and architecture and engineering – most of which are experiencing a labor shortage, as AOL Jobs previously reported.
