Internet To USPS: 'What's Amazing Is This Guy Has A Job'

Video of less-than-amazing delivery sparks online clamor

YouTube, eDude76
The USPS ranks somewhere between Cablevision and fermented shark in the universal catalog of Things People Hate. And a video of a postal worker chucking a package at a customer's door isn't going to aid matters, as the sweeping online response has already proven.

In the video, filmed Monday in the Syracuse, N.Y. area, a USPS driver can be seen driving up to a customer's home and, rather than getting out and leaving the package at the door, winging it against the garage as if it's some kind of shot-put. According to uploader eDude76 the package contained a hard drive, and while it remained unharmed from its Olympic throw, he was naturally a little incensed.

"Hey USPS employees, is this an accepted delivery method?" he posted on Reddit soon after. "Tired of damaged equipment and dents in my garage door." Okay, so the driver here was actually a rural carrier--a contractor, as opposed to an actual USPS employee--but that information isn't going to fix eDude76's garage.

The user said that this wasn't the first instance of USPS mishandling his deliveries. "Yes, I understand boxes can go through rough(er) handling while in transit, but that's not the point," he said in a YouTube comment. "Not to mention being dropped on top of another box or conveyer belt is not the same thing."

The YouTube clip has already been viewed more than 850,000 times, due in part to its use in response to a Spiderman-themed online campaign USPS launched Tuesday with the hashtag "#AmazingUSPS." We're not sure what USPS was expecting people to respond with: heartwarming tales of on-time deliveries? Favorite memories of the post office? At any rate, the video has sparked a wider conversation about USPS's practices; on the video's YouTube page, eDude76 calls for the ability to report drivers via an online interface.

But for now, USPS is keeping quiet about the whole ordeal. "Our employees are committed to delivering your mail far and wide, and we thank those that value their hard word," their latest tweet reads. eDude's carrier must've been working especially hard--he has an impressive underhand throw.

Related... I watched in shock as a UPS driver threw his deliveries from inside the back of his truck out the front passenger side door then proceeded to walk down them while kicking them out of the truck if they weren't already in the street, almost breaking his neck in the process. Once he was out of the truck he kicked them all to the sidewalk then started to pick them up to carry them into the "SPORTS MEMORABILIA" store he was delivering them to. "Handle with care" "Fragile" "This side up" stickers visible on every box seemed to be meant for someone other than him.

Absolutely amazing how some people seem to care less about doing their job properly.

Next time he needs to leave a note requiring the customer to come all the way down to the post office between 9 and 5 to pick it up relatively undamaged.

My mail deliveery person is competent and caring. She works for the USPS not some contractor who doesn't give a s--t.I think we should get rid of a lot of the contractors who are ripping off the government (that's us the taxpayer) by charging inflated prices for sub-standard work. Also voters should take a good hard look at the idealogical idiots who presume that all government agencies and workers are no good. They then cut the budgets of the government agencies so they are not able to do a proper job thereby fulfilling the precconceived notion. These politicians are more inerested in proving themselves right and getting political contributions from the contractors than in taking care of the business of government.

as in every company their a few who ruin it for others!! For the most part most mail carriers enjoy their jobs and are held to extremly high standards and they go above and beyond for their customers !! when ur working everyday and we know that we keep an eye open at all times to help protect you but u didnt know that??? we report(because we want to not because we have to because we are not the police)anything suspicious u didnt know that??? when it looks ur family pet may have wandered off ur property we try and help bring ur animal back but you didnt know that either im sure??? most routes have btw 500-800 people they are responsible for not just one we try our hardest to please each and every singular person and family by learning where u like ur pkgs left weather its easier for you to get them at ur garage door or front steps...we bag ur pkgs in bad weather to make sure they are protected! As far as not having pkgs delivered to ur house after years of them being delivered maybe ur neighbors dog is lose and ur property..could be maybe their is no safe place in ur driveway for them to turn around u might want to ask ur carrier why and i know its not because they are lazy !! And last of all its not impossible for one cust to ship many pkgs a day or a week because alot of people sell on ebay and we have many customers who use our carrier pick up service! There are alot people dont know about USPS as far as ur carrier take a minute to get to know them u might actually like them :) :)

Yes, in every company/situation, you have good ones and bad ones. How many people pass on a "Thanks" for good service? Almost never. But, have an issue and it's all over the place quickly. I've been happy with my carriers over the years, in general they do a great job.

That's not a real United States Postal Service employee. He is not driving a postal vehicle. ******* fraud, he doesn't care. Makes my job look bad.

Some rural carriers do drive their own personal vehicles!! They are permanent USPS employees and work hard to make sure you get your mail, packages and anything you order in the best timely manner and the condition that we recieve it in! I drove my own vehicle for years before a mail truck was assigned to my route!! Don't assume because you see a carrier in their personal car or in regular clothes that they are not being a professional, dedicated USPS employee!! Most of us take great pride in taking care of our customers!!
