Amazon to Hire 70,000 Seasonal Workers

Hiring is a 40 percent increase from last year.

President Obama Makes Economic Policy Speech At An Amazon Fulfillment Center
Getty says it is hiring 70,000 full-time seasonal workers around the U.S. to fill orders during the holiday season.

The world's largest online retailer says the hires are an increase of 40 percent over last year's 50,000 workers. Seasonal employees at Inc. order fulfillment centers are eligible for health care benefits and, on average, earn 94 percent of the wages of regular employees.

Amazon says it plans to convert "thousands" of the temporary jobs into full-time roles after the holiday season.

Tuesday's announcement from the Seattle-based company follows seasonal hiring announcements from other large retailers. Wal-Mart Stores said last week that it is hiring 55,000 seasonal workers. It is also elevating 35,000 temporary workers to part-time positions and 35,000 part-time workers to full-time jobs.

Full time seasonal jobs with Health care are better then no jobs at all. At least a pay check will be coming in for a few months.

Would you consider hiring someone who has SERVED Their Time for a Felony? I truly do hope and pray so, because I know someone who needs a job really good. They have changed their ways, and are now looking for gainful and honest employment!! Please consider, thank you?

Isn't that the same of any healthcare? You can have the best health insurance in the world, Blue Cross/Blue Shield for example. It is find as long as you don't need it. It is fine as long as you don't come up with Cancer or some other illness for which you tap out. Obamacare is for those who work lowing paying jobs, or don't have jobs, or have part time jobs which does not provide healthcare. I would rather they at least have healthcare than come to work at times ill with something for which I and others have to use theirs. I would rather they have healthcare to take care of their sick children, instead of clog up Emergency room where I might have an emergency for which I need to be seen. We nee to stop thinking, believing and acting upon the ignorance of what Obamacare is to those who do not have the luxury of healthcare we seem to want to have for ourselves, but deny others. We may have to some day walk in those shoes, since now a days, nothing is promised to any of us, including healthcare, whether we are working, barely making ends meet or not at all. Best of health.

If you don't have any job at all, part time will at least provide something.

Thats BS , I worked at a FS ( Fulfilment Center) as a full time Amazon employee and after the Holiday season they let them all go. Even part timers that did a good job were let go. These places are two steps away from a sweat shop !!!

2012 Clark 2012

Amazon operates most it's facilities in states that have right to work laws and utilize the workers for short durations of time then replace them with another worker. It saves amazon a lot of money in employee benefits and wage increases.
