Office Prank Caused Man To Kill Co-Workers, Authorities Say

Andrew Lobban, alleged murdererA few nightclub bouncers in Ocala, Fla., had been laughing for days over an embarrassing video of one of their co-workers. Then, tired of the teasing, that co-worker apparently snapped, killing three of them, authorities told the Ocala Star Banner. The bouncer in the video, Andrew Joseph "Punchy" Lobban, has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder in the incident.

Lobban, 31, recently had gone to a shooting range with one of his fellow bouncers who, according to authorities, recorded Lobban misfiring a gun, then shared the video of Lobban with other bouncers at a local nightclub, the Ocala Entertainment Complex.

Lobban "just kept harping on that" during questioning by police, Ocala Police Department spokeswoman Sgt. Angy Scroble told the Star Banner of the teasing about the video. "It really bothered him."

On Saturday night, Lobban, a reportedly mild-mannered guy, was with three of his co-workers outside a bar. According to witnesses, there was no confrontation until Lobban, who'd recently been mocked for his gun handling, put a bullet in the heads of Josue "Sway" Santiago, 25, Benjamin Larz Hoard, 23, and Jerry Lamar Bynes Jr., 20. Lobban reportedly told police that he'd only intended to shoot Santiago.

According to authorities, Lobban admitted to running from the scene of the shootings and dumping his weapon, a 9mm semi-automatic pistol, a block away in a city garbage can. He was was arrested shortly before noon the following day. According to Scroble, there was nothing in Lobban's record to indicate a violent past.

But sometimes what appears to be a harmless taunt can feel much darker on the receiving end. Earlier this month, an Intel employee, Harvey Palacio, filed a federal lawsuit after co-workers taped a "Kick Me" sign to his back and then kicked him a number of times, even as he asked for help removing it. He claimed that he was the victim of months of pranks and taunts because he is Filipino. The two pranksters were fired, and convicted of petty misdemeanor battery.

I wish you all knew the truth as there has been no video ever found and Ben was an innocent person who fought for this country. All were all great men and you all need to realize that all the facts are not in this article.

I've been picked on. I've been bullied. I never put a bullet in anyone's head because of it. WTF? I'm sorry that he was taunted, but it's no excuse to kill 3 people.

Newspapers don't always get all the facts right and not all those that were killed were involved in the "prank". Which has never been proven. So think before you talk.

hey skip

The punishment for teasing is admonishment not execution ! "Knock it off", not knock
their heads off their shoulders with a 9mm round ! The writer of this story seem to be sympathetic
to the accused assassin...the 4th estate has once again exhibited a total lack of responsibility !!!

In FL hispanics, latins abuse the blacks and they just don't know when to quit. A prank gone too far, they may say it's a prank but when does prank become harassment?

Are you making excuses for this crazy murderer? You should be locked up with him. Also, why do you use the race card? This incident had nothing to do with racism or hate. The group of men involved were from different nationalities.

Oh, Melissa - what would a comments section be if someone didn't pull the race card, or make a snarky political comment, or insult someone about their religious beliefs on an article that has nothing whatsoever to do with politics, race or religion?

If I could actually ever get through 10 comments without seeing anything nasty about race, religion or politics I think I'd fall off my chair.

Can you even imagine a world where people actually stuck to the topic at hand, and didn't feel the need to make everything they read into their personal platform to spew out their hatred about politics, religion or race? If I was a moderator, I would automatically remove every comment like that. How wonderful would that be - a comments section that only showcased comments relevant to the article. Wow. Imagine that.

So how does it get to be murder 1? What am I missing?

You're missing the number of people he killed. The first one would probably be second degree murder but the remaining two would be first degree, and probably with eligibility for the death penalty.

Bubbawubba Gump

He stated to the police that he'd only intended to shoot Santiago. "Intended", that shows intent and forethought both required for murder 1. Sounds like the correct charge, but they should add "hate crime" because he was black and they are not and if the situation was reversed they would pull that BS on his co-workers.

No communication skills! Anyone notice how lacking such basic skills are, i.e., writing the English language and using it as a means to resolve disputes? It's like no one knows the language...

Because he doesn't know how to handle a gun and was mocked for it? You can't blame him for the outcome?

Yeah, but he killed 2 other men he said he never intended to kill. He only intended to kill Santiago. What about the wives, girlfriends and families of the other 2 men that he did not intend to kill? I hope they give this murderer the death sentence.
