OMG!! Just watched your stupid video above!! Seriously? Do you know ANYTHING about Nuclear power at ALL? ANYTHING about 'The Manhatten Project'? They were producing plutonium for WEAPONS. That has NOTHING to do with what Hannford is doing NOW, generating POWER.What they did THEN has NOTHING to do with what we do NOW!!Here's some facts that may interest you (if you have a SHRED of reporter in you!)Deaths per kWh (kilo wat hour)coal=170,000biomass=24,000natural gas=4,000solar=440wind=150NUCLEAR=90Clean up & storage is FAR more regulated now than in the 1940's.I've worked in the industry for over 13 years now, and I can tell you I'd MUCH rather work a nuke than a dirt-burner (coal).
It's an AMAZING place...slathered in history. Read up on 'The Manhatten Project"....we knew SO little back then (only 60 years ago) compared to what we know now. They were cacooning reactors when I was there over 5 years ago. It really DOES warrent a clean-up of epic proportions....maybe if congress & senate signs on to Obama Care for themselves, give UP their life-time pay and medical benny's, Hanford can afford to do the clean-up. And a lot of OTHER things also.
Our son-in-law is an stress engineer for Bechtel, the contractor who designs and maintains the containers. It is important that these old WWII era containers not leak their toxic sludge into the Columbia River - the water source for the region. He does not know yet if he will be furloughed, but is preparing for the worse.
and bechtel is the worest at building power plants. they are always behind and over budget
Our son-in-law is an engineer for Bechtel, the contract that provides the design for safe containers. He doesn't know yet if he will be furloughed, but is preparing for the worse. Hanford is right on the Columbia River so it is important that this toxic sludge not leak into the water.
