I think a little background is in order here for a balance.First is the fact that in order to become a firefighter in NYC you have to pass a test and are hired off of a list according to how you have scored. There is no nepotism or favortism involved at all.
In the test previous to the one that Brenda Berkman took your whole test score was based on a written test, and that type of test was declared by a judge as being discrimantory against blacks. So, in order to rectify that situation the City declared that in the test that Brenda took, half your score would be written and the other half physical. Now comes along Brenda Berkman and sues the city and also wins several years back pay for herself and the other woman who could not pass the physical portion of the test. THAT is why there was so much resentment againt woman in the depertment NOT because they were woman per se. And if that were not enough now the black fraternal organization in the NYC firedepartment the Vulcan 'Society has won a lawsuit against the city saying that the City discriminates against black because there are not enough of them in the department. It is the people of the city of New York who are being ill served by people with an adgenda.
