Comcast's NBCUniversal To Cut 500 Jobs, Including On Leno, Report Says

NBCUniversal cutting jobs layoffs

LOS ANGELES -- Comcast Corp's NBCUniversal entertainment unit is laying off about 500 employees at cable channels, Jay Leno's late-night TV show and the Universal Pictures movie studio, a person with knowledge of the matter said on Monday.

The cuts add up to about 1.5 percent of the company's workforce of 30,000 employees, the source said.

A large portion of the layoffs occurred at the G4 cable channel, a network about video games and the gaming culture, the source said. Two of the network's shows were recently canceled.

Other layoffs occurred about two months ago at "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno," which cut about two dozen crew members.

The company's movie studio, Universal Pictures, also eliminated about 20 jobs, including some at the home entertainment division. Home entertainment sales have suffered across the industry as traditional DVDs fall from favor with consumers.

Other job cuts are expected at NBC News group and the company's cable channels, which include USA, Bravo and E!, the source said.

Comcast bought a 51 percent controlling stake in NBCUniversal in January 2011.

I never thought it took as manhy people as it does to make one of those shows, but like Leno, it takes a hundred or more. It's alot of people. and to have to cut one or two shold be do-able. you hate to do it. somebody loses a job and you do lose a litlle enjoyment on th job because it becomes more business than fun.

Maybe if they fired most of the idiots they have reading the news, the ratings would go up. I never watch NBC nationally, and I dropped Comcast several years ago. Service is not their middle name, nor is being objective journalists

If you check the debt levels per President, Bush raised it, Clinton started to lower it, the Junior bush came in and raised it for two terms. But sure, Obama is crushing the economy.....

Actually, if they broadcast some of their USA shows on regular network, they might do better.

LOL. They worked so hard to get Obama re-elected and now just like other major companies they don't want to pay ALL the higher taxes that will be incurred through Obamacare. Almost every company is going to do this. Who said the economy is getting better???

"Who said the economy is getting better?" Our President did! And I will add that he spoke the truth, he simply left 50% of his statement out, that is, who is it getting better for?

NBC should also can, Obama's Baghdad Bob, Brian Williams. The Liberal news media would like nothing more than for Obama to turn our Nation into a Socialist Country.
