Googler Watched Child Porn And Beheadings Daily For His Job

Googler watched child porn beheadings

There's a lot of creepy, repulsive, morally abhorrent stuff on the Internet, and that means there are also a lot of people whose job it is to watch it, review it and get it taken down. One guy who reportedly had that job at Google -- and whose identity was not revealed -- describes the "scarring" experience in an interview with Buzzfeed FWD. The former Googler says that the job was made all the worse when the company denied him a full-time position, leaving him to scramble for a new job at the end of his year there.

The ex-Google employee says that he spent his days exploring the ugly underbelly of humanity on all of Google's products, like its search engine, Google Images, the picture-organizer Picasa and the social networking site Orkut (that has its largest fan base in India and Brazil). There were beheadings, he says, and suicides. Grotesque fetishes, mutilations and bestiality. And lots of child porn.

Child porn, in particular, has to be removed within 24 hours of the service provider becoming aware of it and also must be reported to federal authorities. He says that there were perhaps 15,000 of those images a day.

After nine months of it, he thought he was coping fine, "but it was putting me in a really dark place," he says. Google had someone from a federal agency sit down with him, and she asked him to react to a series of photographs. "That's f***ed up!" he exclaimed in response to an ordinary photo that depicted a normal father and his kid. He decided he needed therapy, but Google would only cover one session.

The former Google employee says that he was a contractor, and so was not entitled to the benefits of a full-time employee, or any emotional support, despite the nature of his daily grind. Google contractors can also only stay on for a year, and at nine months, he was told that he wasn't going to be hired full-time. He claims that this has happened to several of Google's employees entrusted with the most blood-curdling work at the company.

This ex-Googler's story punctures Google's rainbow-hued image as one of the most magnanimous employers known to mankind: a company that feeds its employees three free meals a day, offers new mothers more than four months of paid leave, and has a complimentary laundry service on site.

Employee satisfaction at Google, in fact, jumped by over a third this past year, according to CareerBliss -- more than at any other U.S. company. This may be partly due to a generous new death benefit -- paying 50 percent of the deceased employee's salary to the spouse for a decade.

Google's unofficial slogan may be "Don't be evil," but when it comes to dealing with the evil others do, it seems it isn't always saintly.

I have seen all of the goriest things on the net, but I would cry and get depressed if I ever saw child porn. They should cut off the penises of the people who make that garbage. I hope they all die.

I worked as a contractor at Google and has this C*NT for a boss.... Her initials are T.E. A massive, soulless bitch. No, Google is not a fairy tale place where hard work is appreciated - it's expected without so much as a basic thank you to it's contractors (it's too busy licking employee ass to concern itself with others they hire on temporarily). And the pay for contractors is SH*T, unless you are an engineer, then it's slightly higher..... Don't believe the hype. Google is just as evil as every other corporation. They just hide it better.

I'm surprised Google hasn't already outsourced this job and all its other jobs to places like China....after all, that is what the "job creator" major corporations of the U.S. (that Mitt Romney and Ayn Ryan are so in love with) are best known for....creating jobs for countries other than the U.S. and moving the few remaining jobs still left in the U.S. to other nations.

It's probably a good thing he didn't get hired on. It doesn't seem like the type of job ANYBODY should do for an extended amount of time. However, offering more therapy probably should be standard for people exposed to such things.

He could not have pick the worst job to be a temp worker, the makes labor ready look good..
What missing is the real story. Thousand of us work as temp workers at these companies. Because we are not employees of the goggles and Microsofts, we we do not receive any benefits for these companies by law (the tax law over employes vs contractors). We we do not have any future; 12 to 18 months then move . While there some good company, one must be shrew because for every good firm there are temp firm that are boiler room operations looking for warm bodies to fill their bottom lines with contractor gold. I have deal with temp firm fitting of the fly by night label, that want submit me but offer no healthcare, and law balling wages woffering16.00 for a normally 22.00 a dollar job and plenty of empty promise of permanent hire . No paid holidays and vacation are a way of life us.
Still temp work is better than sitting on my but receiving unemployment, I wish I did not have stupid debt I would have save money to move out of state or out of the US for permanent work.

I have no sympathy for this guy. If he found the job offensive or simply couldn't handle the content of his required duties--then he should have resigned and found a job to his liking. As far as this guy having to look at sexual content between two or more grown ADULTS-- then Google should have at least allowed him to masturbate while viewing his work.

I feel bad for the worker. Google needs to step-up and maybe reconsider the status of this position....making if full-time employment so that benefits can cover what seems like necessary job related health issues. I under employers having contract employees. There's nothing wrong with that. But, like I said, Google needs to reconsider the status of this position considering the role and responsibilities of it.

If Google is so bad to their employees who have this job, that kind of explains to me why I can't look up a simple search without being overwhelmed with the perversion of the internet. Gross!
