Good idea. But get the third and some second world nations to do this. HA. LOL. The UN is just a group that wants the US dollar to spend in thier countries to make profit. AND we will pay for this how? Green is great, but you still can not fly a jet, or any plane with out combustion. Not enough lift. There will always be a need for oil, whether for synthetics, or for Jet Fuel.
Most countries are broke, and the cost of changing over to GREEN is more than most can afford. I would love to have solar on my house to cut my ties to the energy company, BUT, it would cost around $50K to do that. Add to that the cost of batteries and how they damage the environment? The new CFC bulbs have mercury in them and you can not break them or you have to have EPA come in and do your house at a cost of $5k for a broken bulb? WHO CAN AFFORD GREEN... Green pollutes too, and in some ways WORSE than non green. How about going to glass bottles for colas instead of cans like in the 50's and 60's??? NO WASTE THERE. Go old school
