Calif. Teen Breaks Up With Teacher After His Arrest

Christopher Hooker teacher student relationshipMODESTO, Calif. -- A Northern California teen who made national news when she and her high school teacher moved in together says she has broken off the relationship following allegations that he sexually abused another student.

Jordan Powers, 18, told ABC News that when her now former boyfriend, Christopher Hooker, called her from jail she told him, "We're done."

Hooker, 41, was arrested Friday on suspicion of sexually abusing a different student more than a decade ago.

After being booked on one count of oral copulation with a minor, he made a brief court appearance during which a judge entered a not guilty plea on his behalf.

Powers and Hooker moved in together in February, with Powers dropping out of James Enochs High School in Modesto and Hooker quitting his teaching job there and leaving his wife and three children.

The two appeared on a number of national talk shows and in interviews, and maintained that they didn't have a sexual relationship until she turned 18. But police are still investigating whether there was inappropriate contact before that.

During Saturday's interview with ABC, Powers said that she had "lost everything for this guy."

"I lost my senior year. I gave up all my friends at high school because they didn't agree with me," she said.

Meanwhile, the teen's mother, Tammie Powers, said that after Hooker was arrested, she helped her daughter move out of the small apartment the two shared.

The mother and daughter have left for an undisclosed location out of the area, The Modesto Bee reported.

"She is safe, and I'm glad of that, and I'm elated that he's in custody," Tammie Powers told the newspaper.

Hooker was released from the Stanislaus County Jail after posting $50,000 bail, the newspaper reported.

And so ends another May-December romance. It ended as most of them do, with a long prison sentence for the older one.

I've been wondering where her dad has been through this process. I presume a divorce - anyway, perhaps if he had stuck around the young girl wouldn't be looking for a father figure. Of course, the teacher isn't much of a dad either, considering he dumped his wife and kids for a teenager.

He will go crawling back to his wife and kids. Hopefully, she is strong enough to do the right thing.

...He might...but he will also have to find a job. He resigned in lieu of a termination for violation of the school district teacher-student fraternization policy. The guy will likely never teach again (which is good). And with this publicity, he might also have a very difficult time finding a job.
