While striving to be better is a good rule in all of life, it does not always mean "the money will follow". I think many of these articles are written with the business private sector in mind. My career path has always been in social services, and believe me, the money does not always follow even if you do something that managment consider great. That of course, is part of the reason that many folks don't stay in this field...

Perhaps informing his boss of good or new ideas worked for John Izzo but for many if not most of us, sharing a good idea with the boss generally gets the boss the reward.

This is not to say that over the years my bosses have not listened to my ideas, changes or suggestions but often they take your suggestion and go to their weekly staff meeting where they "share" the idea.

Too often the boss gets the credit and reward-at least that has been my experience.

Absolutely my experience as well--and don't forget the opposite side of the coin: the company that doesn't WANT to hear any input on how things can be improved, unless said ideas originate from the executive office.
