A former payroll manager for the San Francisco Giants has been sentenced to 21 months in federal prison after she admitted to embezzling $2.2 million.
The San Francisco Chronicle reports that 42-year-old Robin O'Connor of American Canyon was sentenced Monday in federal court, where she tearfully apologized to family, friends and the team.
The judge ordered O'Connor to pay more than $1.4 million to the Giants and forfeit two cars prosecutors say she bought with the stolen money. She previously paid back $960,000.
In November O'Connor pleaded guilty to defrauding the team by transferring money to her bank accounts between June 2010 and June 2011.
Her attorney says O'Connor is deeply remorseful, and her husband would take the couple's two sons to his native England if she went to prison.
