Look And Feel Good Series: DIY Beauty Recipes For Glowing Skin
If you're in need of a quick pre-interview makeover, instead of heading to a costly spa, why not make your own beauty recipes? As a top beauty and age-proofing expert in the media, I have whipped up hundreds of DIY beauty recipes on TV shows such as "The Doctors" and "Extra," on the KTLA and KCAL TV stations in Los Angeles, and on Fox News, The Style Network, The Discovery Channel, and others. Thousands worldwide have used my beauty recipes including Hollywood makeup artists, doctors, busy executives, moms and baby boomers.
My beauty recipes are scientifically proven and they're made with common foods and condiments found in the kitchen pantry. As some of you may know, I've used these beauty recipes throughout my successful career as a body-double in Hollywood. In a nutshell, my job was to model my hands, arms, back, tummy, legs, feet (and more) in over 1,000 commercials and in movies for stars including Penelope Cruz, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Garner, Cindy Crawford, Milla Jovovich, Courtney-Thorne Smith, Kate Walsh, and one of the "Desperate Housewives" -- to name a few.
Below, I've outlined two of my most popular, do-able recipes for glowing skin. These masks will help refine lines and enlarged pores, brighten skin tone and fade spots.
1. Coffee grounds prevent breakouts (for all skin types).
Did you know that coffee grounds are loaded with antioxidants and can help balance the pH of our skin? Whether you have normal, oily or dry skin, keep blemishes in check, with my coffee grounds recipe. After making your cup of morning java, allow the coffee grounds to cool down until warm – not hot. First cleanse skin. Then apply warm grounds onto clean skin and scrub in a gentle, circular motion. Rinse, apply daily moisturizer, and then sun screen, and make-up. Store used grounds in the fridge up to 3 days. To use stored grounds, add 1 tsp. water, and warm slightly in the microwave.
2. Papaya brightens skin tone (for all skin types and those with rosacea).
For those with sensitive skin, it's best to apply a non-abrasive enzyme mask, instead of using a scrub. Many spas charge $65-and-up for an enzyme peel to help calm redness, even skin tone, fade age spots and slough off dead skin. Make your own enzyme mask for a couple of dollars. First cleanse skin. Then cut a ripe papaya in half and remove the seeds and pulp. Rub the inside peel of the papaya onto your entire face and on the tops of your hands. Wait 20 minutes, or until dry, then rinse with tepid water.
