Sonography technology is well-known for its ability to show a fetus as it develops in a mother's womb, but there are dozens of other uses for medical sonography as well. Sonography's noninvasive nature makes it the preferred method for several diagnostic applications.

The job outlook for diagnostic medical sonographers will increase faster than average for all occupations through 2018, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
