If a waiter actually had the gall to approach me and reprimand me for the amount of my tip, I would state simply that yes, I had made a mistake, and then I would take BACK another 20% of it......
I'm sorry I thought the price for service was included in the overpriced food, my bad. Maybe people shouldn't rely on handouts for mediocre work?
After reading this article, if I ever had Alex Dorville as a waiter, I'd stiff him, no matter what. The gall to actually approach someone and tell them their tip isn't sufficient? Wow. A gratuity is just that, a gratuity. It isn't part of your wages. A goodly amount of the time, probably 99%, sure, tip and tip generously for good, quality service. But if the waiter is a douche or doesn't provide good service, don't tip them.... And for the servers out there that think people are just jerks, maybe you should turn inward and question what is/was wrong with YOUR SERVICE. I've never not given a tip to someone that did well. But if you get my order wrong, leave me with nothing to drink, or are generally rude, don't expect my gratitude in the form of a gratuity... Simple as that.
