Now Hiring: GE Creating 1,000 Manufacturing Jobs

GE JobsGE Transportation has announced plans to open a new manufacturing facility in Fort Worth, Texas, that will employ more than 500 workers by 2012. The plant has the potential to add up to 275 additional workers in subsequent years. In addition, 250 new jobs will be added to GE's long-time home base in Erie, Penn.

GE plans to invest up to $96 million to build the state-of-the-art manufacturing plant in Texas. The new 900,000-square-foot facility will house manufacturing and assembly of GE's rail and transportation-related products, including fuel-efficient locomotives like the Evolution® Series, which reduces emissions by up to 40 percent and cuts fuel use by 5 percent - the equivalent of 640,000 gallons over its lifetime. Production in the new plant is scheduled to start by 2012.

Texas Gov. Rick Perry already has expressed enthusiasm, saying, "This investment will create a major locomotive manufacturing facility in Fort Worth, along with hundreds of jobs for Texans and millions in capital investment in the area."

GE's Erie plant, which employs over 4,500 people, will be hiring an additional 250 production workers. The facility already has recalled around 800 production workers since late 2010, and announced 450 new jobs since April (including the 250 announced today).

Since 2009, GE has announced the creation of 6,500 new high-tech manufacturing jobs in the U.S., with nearly 1,000 of that total added since April of this year.

Honestly if you're an "American born AMERICAN" and you get beat out of a job by an illegal immigrant with no schooling, no english, and not a cent to their name....what does that have to say about you?

Boy, you just find the negative in everything don't you? Listen, even if your point had an ounce of truth, where is it more likely for Americans to get jobs... in Texas or in China? Lighten up please...

Well Vince baby...........you are showing your stupidity. Debbie is perfectly right.

Based on the Center for Immigration Studies and the Pew Hispanic Study, 80% of the jobs in Texas since 2007 have gone to immigrants, NOT native born Americans in the working class of 18-65 years old. Further, it was about a 40 / 40 split between illegals and legals, period, the only types of immigrants.

So get you facts straight and stop drinking the cool aid.

Further, since 2000-2010 over this ten year period (we just completed a census) the net job growth for immigrants was 100% and the net job growth for native born Americans was zero (0)!!

Amazing and the first time in our history!! Seek the facts Vince baby......stop the ignorance. If you want the demographics, just go to the Center for Immigration Studies, the only credible federal agency.

The argument is not WHO (Mexico, China, Russia, etc.) the argument is HOW MANY!!

I know this hurts your La Raza pride, but hey, show me different with credible empirical data. Well..............

Wake up morons this is an attempt at looking good for GE. How long will it be till Erie PA starts sheeding the high paying jobs at there current loco making plants. Moving down south for slave wages in hard hit areas. Some of us are on to you. Whats next Boeing moving to Mississippi? Granted there is some creadence to the argument that the unions in both places are out of line, but managements blatent disregard for skilled people makes me sick. Same problem MBA's with no practical experiance basing decisions on bean counters projections.

Now stop giving OUR tax dollars to the richest in the entire world - the OIL shameless companies!!

The government makes many times the profit made by the oil companies...a large portion of the cost of a gallon of gas is from taxes...the oil companies make less than 3 cents a gallon...the gov agencies a whole lot more...

the oil companies are making record profits and get huge tax subsidies paid for by the working folks. the taxes at the pump are also paid by consumers. the oil companies are not paying the taxes on oil the people are!
