us capitol building With a nationwide low of six percent unemployment, Washington, D.C., is the best city to find a job, reports Forbes. With 14.3 percent unemployment, up from 12.5 percent last year, Las Vegas is the worst.

In Sin City there are eight unemployed for every job posted online. In the D.C. metro area, which includes parts of Maryland and Virginia, there is roughly one jobless person applying for each position posted on the web.

The rosy picture in the Washington, D.C., area reflects all the government-related employment. That's mirrored in other areas with government hubs such as Austin, Texas, Oklahoma City, and Hartford, Conn.

Although state governments like the one centered in Hartford tend not to be hiring much right now, they haven't been experiencing large-scale layoffs either. All that could change, though, if the fiscally minded Republicans start chopping budgets at the federal and state levels.

The areas doing the worst, such as parts of Florida and California as well as Detroit, usually have not been able to bounce back from the hits to real estate, tourism, construction, and manufacturing.

what a surprise - the one place where everyone would want there to be massive layoffs (starting at the top on down) is pumping up its job market at our expense.

Might be some forced employment in Military related Jobs for even older unemployed people due to the nature of WWIII. Look at the decline of this job market over the last 3 decades. The economy has ransacked jobs around the world. Developed nations can exist in a world where they lose manufacturing and other jobs which are the driver for education and properity.

A lot of people are going to end their job search in a military uniform I afraid. I just don't know how high the Draft age cap will be this time. Millions of baby boomers that can still work but don't have jobs may get them as the Draft pulls people away from their employers.

OMG patti, you really don't have a clue where that money comes from to
pay government workers. Are you 12 or are you a government worker? Either
way you wouldn''t know how this works.

No Bob, I am not 12 and I do understand where the money is coming from since I have paid into that system all of my working life. As I said in my other post nor am I a government worker. Let's not pretend that there hasn't always been government workers. I know things are really stressful out there and I know we the people are not going to complain ourselves out of this. Big government did not appear overnite. It has been like this for some time. As much as people come hear to these site to complain I hear no good solutions, just more of the same bitching moaning and groaning against DC and the people in it. By the way Bob I am a grown woman with children and a grandchild, I've been at this for some time and yes I have always worked and paid my own way.

Nevada must have a bunch of the dumbest voters in this country. To re-elect Harry Reed with the problems Nevada faces simply equates stupid voters.

I THINK THE REPUBLICANS IN 2004 WERE THE IDIOTS.. THIS IS THE COMMENTS I HEARD DURING THAT TIME... "I AM GOING TO VOTE FOR BUSH AGAIN SO HE CAN FINISH WHAT HE STARTED... DAAAAAA....

ALTHOUGH HE WON THANKS TO A JUDGE IN 2000...

Bush v. Gore, 531 U.S. 98 (2000), is the landmark United States Supreme Court decision that effectively resolved the 2000 presidential election in favor of George W. Bush. Only eight days earlier, the United States Supreme Court had unanimously decided the closely related case of Bush v. Palm Beach County Canvassing Board, 531 U.S. 70 (2000), and only three days earlier, had preliminarily halted the recount that was occurring in Florida.
