John Toomey Fired as Macy's Santa, Allegedly for Offbeat Humor

John Toomey Macys Santa firedAfter 20 years as Santa Claus at the Union Square Macy's in San Francisco, John Toomey has been fired, reports Kevin Fagan in the San Francisco Chronicle. This tragic news is resonating around the nation, including being an item in high-profile Gawker.

The reason why Toomey got the boot isn't entirely clear. That's because Macy's, like most corporations, treats personnel matters as confidential. The buzz, though, is that for years Toomey had a routine of corny jokes he used with older adults. One was to ask if they had been good all year. If they answered 'yes,' he would reply 'Gee, that's too bad.' Another was his smack down when adults asked him why he was so jolly and he'd reply it was because he knows where all the naughty boys and girls live.

It's said that an older couple found this offbeat humor as inappropriate and reported Toomey to management. Now he is one more unemployed American.

You DO NOT want to work at MACY'S! Aside from dirt pay, they are self-insured company. By doing so, the way they treat legitimately hurt workers is worst then the injury itself! If you are hurt badly enough, ending up with permanent disability and put on Social Security Disability or SSI, they will fight you tooth and nail for years in court with their lying DRs, phoney baloney IME exams. They spend more $ on lawyers, thanks to their ruthless Claims Adjuster Robin Goodell, so they DO NOT have to pay your Workers Comp, dumping YOU onto the government! You've been warned - STAY AWAY from MACY's - they will treat you like GARBAGE - you are indispensable - NO MATTER how hard you work or your qualifications!!

They give MORE jobs OVERSEAS including Customer Service, not to mention cheaply made, overpriced merchandise made in China, done away with Union Workers and Full Time help so NO Benefits! They just want to take your money! The greedy Macy's management is one part of the reason, America is in the dumps. They look at themselves as a Leader in Retail Business -- YEAH! in How to RIP OFF your employees and customers, underneath their noses, so Corporate Management can live the High Life. Macy's ain't what it used to be when privately owned.

Its ALL A BIG FARCE! One day they will fall hard when people wake up to what is going on and stop falling for the Sale Commercials! Refocus and Buy Local!

This is really too much. I can tell ya I miss the good ole years, 1950's, because people weren't trying to sue each other and older folks got respect. I feel for you younger people because you missed the best years of this country.
