Amy-Erin Blakely Fired for Having Big Breasts?

Amy Erin BlakelyBig breasts: Do they present a distraction in the workplace, like loud music or body odor? That's what a court of law will have to decide, reports Msnbc.com.

In Florida, former assistant director at The Devereux Foundation Amy-Erin Blakely filed a gender discrimination lawsuit against the employer. Mixed in to her suit is also an allegation of retaliation when she reported this violation of her civil rights to her superiors.

Senior managers at The Devereux Foundation would remark to Blakely that her breasts were large. As such, she was told, those breasts were "too distracting." Managers recommended she wear clothes that masked her breast size or pursue other tactics to conceal her bosom.

On the job, she filed two internal reports about how she was being spoken to. On the day that she had filed the second report -- Oct. 28 -- she was fired.

Celebrity feminist attorney Gloria Allred is representing Blakely in this lawsuit. Allred and Blakley spoke with Fox 11 News about the complaint.

Allred sees this as an important legal action for all women. Her client Blakely had received numerous promotions and supervised hundreds of employees. All indications had been she was headed for the top of the organization.

That all derailed when she registered her concerns about the harassment in two grievance procedures. The lawsuit is asking for compensatory and punitive damages, as well attorney fees. Clearly, there is a whistleblower element embedded in the lawsuit.

Blakely, 43, told Fox 11 that the comments about her breasts, including men saying they wanted to sit close to her/them, started slowly in 2003. That was when she received her first promotion. Then they escalated as she continued to receive promotions. She noted that she felt "devalued" and came to be ashamed of her body. Her mode of dressing, she said, was "professional," not provocative.

If it smells like, looks like, and sounds like a bit of male envy at the success of a female, maybe it is...

She may have a case, but I don't think that her employer was right about the curves.

I have worked with are alot of beautiful women who would never consider using their sexuality in the work place for ANY reason. I have worked with a number of women (attractive or not) who throw their sexuality out there in every way possible. It has been my experience that men tend to make comments about, respond sexually or flirt only with the women who act sexually. This is a man's green light to respond in kind. Based on my years of seeing this consistent pattern over and over. . .it is hard for me to believe that Amy-Erin Blakely is not a woman who throws her sexuality around in the work place.

It's stupid to fire a hot woman from the workplace.

BUT

It's even DUMBER to file a lawsuit against it! This woman needs to get over herself! There are other jobs out there. And it doesn't matter how bad the economy is, there will always be jobs for women who look good and treat others respectfully - this woman suing needs to let go or she's gonna be in deep water. It's evident that the only reason she is suing is because she wants to be complemented for her looks. But personally, I think women who have huge breasts ARE a distraction to the work place. And if they're plastic then they are not really "boobs" and she has no case.

Hands down. What she's doing is so ridiculous I just had to say something. What a stuck up B****.

WHAT ?? She has little breasts !!! If she needed something to sue for, she should try being UGLY ! She could use bigger boobs to keep people from looking at her face.

Flippin, You know that they dont take your kids away but that they reat abused, neglected, and troubled kids, that maybe if people would be parents wouldn't be in that situation, and good job filing a lawsuit that will harm the kids in many ways.

When I and 200 other employees got laid off it was very noticable that none of the cute girls with big breasts lost their jobs. Some of them had been there less than a year while men with 35 years lost their jobs. I'll take big breasts any time to open doors. Why do you think implants are so popular?
