I Interviewed at Lowe's

lowes jobI am a girly girl who isn't a homeowner. Having said that, I rarely have the need to shop at Lowe's. The company is a retail warehouse filled with merchandise ranging from dishwashers and wooden doors to outside power equipment, so it wasn't a place I ever shopped. I didn't even know how to use a hammer!

The first time I stepped foot in a Lowe's store was when I interviewed for a cashier's position. I needed a part-time job and although my experience with everything involved with home improvement was minimal, I was coaxed by my roommate (and an employee of Lowe's) to apply.

My first interview was with the head of Human Resources for the Atlanta branch. I bugged him for an interview several times after I filled out an online application. During the interview, he asked me a range of questions such as: "Why do you want to work for Lowe's?" "Are you knowledgeable with the products?" and "How do you handle stress?"

Even though I admitted I didn't know much about lawn seed and power tools, I told him I was interested in learning more and getting to know more about home improvement. I had a second interview with a store zone manager where he asked me similar questions. I believe I landed the job because I showed interest in the company and its products, even though I didn't have much knowledge about either.

One tip for those interested in working at Lowe's: Wearing business casual to an interview at Lowe's is key. You want to look professional, but you don't want to overdo it.

I think that it would be pretty awesome to work at Lowe's. I just love learning how new equipment works and being around hardware stores. I love building random fort's and tunnels around my property and new supplies always helps with that.

Congratulations on getting the job. It does seem like when you show interest in learning more about a company your chances of getting a job increase. I was hired as a physical therapist aid with no experience because I showed interest.

I have worked at places before where I had no interest in working but I just needed a job. I have been to Lowes a couple of times and everyone was really friendly. It seems like a nice job to have until you can find a career.

The key to any interview is be prepared, follow up, be yourself, ask for the job, and dont be nervous.
