I am one of those people (HR). I agree with most everyone. I fight all the time to hire people who I feel are able to transfer their skills and be very successful with the company. I feel the HR industry has become lazy in the sense that they do not want to invest in training the right person. Put the ball in the applicants court. If they fail after being given a chance then so be it. Then you must move on. I have gotten my way on many hiring decisions and it has worked out. I was in the same boat years ago. I was in the restaurant industry and wanted to work in an office environment. That was a joke. I had to volunteer to work for a small office to get the experience and it paid off. I went back to school and received my BA degree in Human and Organizational Development and an Associates in HR. Now I want to switch from retail HR to medical HR and it is the same issues again. So I feel your pain.
