I agree with you. I was laid off a week after I turned 50 and while I was on vacation. The manager, in her 30s, hired her sister to take my place, and another manager hired his stepson. This company operation was so unethical, underhanded and illegal, that when the labor department was informed, HR did quite a lot of scrambling to cover their mess. Because I was 'older' I didn't fit in with their 'like, totally awesome' mentality. I did my job, trained them and the others they hired, and was laid off as a thank you. They didn't have the nerve to tell me to my face. And when I came back from vacation to clean out my desk, they locked me out of the office.
