AOL Find a Job
We simply don't trust our bosses, according to a survey conducted for Adecco Group North America. This month, Harris Interactive interviewed over 2,000 adults nationwide, half of whom were employed full- or part-time. Here's what the study uncovered:
- 53 percent of workers do not think their boss is honest.
- 25 percent believe their boss is dishonest about their job security.
- 53 percent do not think their boss is fair or patient.
- 75 percent do not think their boss is loyal.
- 28 percent would lay off or fire their boss if given the opportunity.
- 40 percent would take their bosses' jobs if offered.
- 66 percent of workers would not change anything about their relationship with their boss.
- 89 percent think their relationship with the boss is important for job satisfaction.

I don't just THINK my "ex" boss (MCP and misogynist that he is and was) was dishonest, I KNOW it. When I was fired unjustly, I couldn't get any of the remaining people to come forward with what they knew and had heard and seen, all of them citing fear for their jobs. Guess what, he fired all of them - one by one in the three years since I was "let go".
He was (and probably still IS) embezzling, but as he was "VP" and had total access to all accounts and the owners trust him implicitly, it was child's play for him to move money around and say he paid cash for casual labor or something. Once when a huge sum disappeared he said he'd taken the cash for a buying trip and "someone" stole it out of the unattended truck! One of his 'henchmen' got the blame for that! Shortly before I was let go, the owners and I had a conversation and Mr. "owner" said he was going to have a full audit done...it never happened and guess who talked him out of it?
Oh, some of you are likely wondering WHY I feel I was unjustly fired? First, the man made constant comments about the fact that I was 1) a woman; 2) older; 3) handicapped. NONE of these impacted my job performance at all - I had come in and stream-lined the operation of the section I was in control of, and made it more business-like (he then made someone a great deal younger with no qualifications or training, the manager over me - his reasoning was that "someday you'll want to retire")...in fact, I had been "promoted" to bookkeeper. It was during the "training" for this that this jerk was told that effective immediately I would be the only one with access to the accounts, and would move funds only on the orders of the accountants. The very next day the checkbooks were removed and less than a week later I was gone! Things that make you go, "Hmmmmmmmm".

Bob is a boob! obama is the first Prez in memory who wants to defend workers; Bush cut overtime, let companies go to Medicare vs. company-paid care, and allowed cuts in pensions. Plus Obama wants to cut bonuses for Wall Street bosses. You got it backwards, BOB!

Its all a matter of "Leaders" Vs. "Bullies."In a corporate structure leaders are not desirable as bosses,as they cannot be counted on to further corporate agendas to the detriment of the people that work under them.Bullies however, can be counted on to do whatever they are told, no matter who of their underlings may come to harm.
Sometimes, a well meaning person takes a boss position, then comes to find that they are now in a rock, and hardplace situation that eventually grinds them down till they either cave in, leave, or are fired. To corporate management, bullies are good as bosses, as they have little other use in society, usually ending up in the lowest tier of job holders. They also lack imagination, work ethics, and people skills, which makes them no threat to their own bosses positions. There are the Blessed exceptions, but they are Blessed because they are so few....

I've heard people say "Your boss isn't supposed to be your friend! Just do your job." The problem with this thinking is that when your boss acts like a slave driver or bully, he puts everybody on edge and the only motivation to do a good job is not to get praise or better the company, but keep him/her away from you. The bosses I've had that actually treat me with the dignity and respect due to any fellow human being have quickly discovered that I work harder for them and take a lot more initiative!

As long as you want to blame someone or agree with "Bob"... How about blaming the real culprits.. Bush and his Republican Congress and House.. Who did it for 8 years and nearly ruined the entire financial world!! Not the guy who inherited it all and darn near has it working again.
What short memories you have.

Hoss you looked at the unemployment numbers lately??? The only thing your precious leader has raised is his own ego.

JR007....Your an idiot...Bush warned at least 15 times to reign in the mortgage giveaway Carter started and Clinton put in overdrive. Greenspan warned of a catastrophic breakdown in the financial system because of the free money to people who could not afford the mortgages. With Barney Frank and Chris Dodd and the rest at the helm of the law making or the lack of and with no regulation of the banking industry and the pressure to lend starting with Janet Reno and the like it went over the cliff. A little research should keep you from sounding like an idiot.

Finally a comment from someone with brains! The Bush years were brutal!

I have been very lucky to have decent bosses, but let's face it: if you get a boss who hates you, they can make your life a living hell. I also don't think it is ever a good idea for a person who was once a peer to suddenly be your supervisor. Only a select few can handle that well.

You cannot properly raise children or effectively manage people without hurting someone*s feelings. If you manage to avoid this unfortunate consequence* you will have raised a Brat and will end up posting their bail bond. As for the manager he will end up being demoted or be terminated.

Having worked for a fair number of Fortune 500 companies over the years I came to realize 99 out of 100 "bosses" when ordered by corporate to eat their own children would only have one response:
"Boiled or fried?"

El Bunto, you are absolutly right. There is a big difference between leaders and bullies. I have worked for both. A leader earns the respect of his subordinates by his actions, a bully is just a bully and nothing will ever change that. As is the case with all bullies they are that way because of their own shortcomings.
The trouble is in this economy the bullies have the upper hand and some of them even know it. Just remember, what goes around comes around. All you can do is know that the job you do every day is the best you can do with the tools you have. When this economy turns around walk away from the grief and BS knowing that the poor leadership will eventually fall.

My bosses April and Laura forced me to retire before I was ready. I'm still bitter toward them Of course they were younger $0 and 35. It's like when you are older, I'm 62, you are an idiot. That's how I feel. They got their wish, I retired before I got fired or had a nervous breakdown. I hope they read this. My name is Judy Buckley.
