Employment Outlook: Living in Alaska definitely takes a special type of person and spirit. If you have an adventurous side and enjoy living close to nature, Alaska has a landscape you will truly enjoy. If you are looking for jobs in the adventurous state, there are a variety of options. Many jobs in Alaska involve working outdoors. There are fishing jobs, working on boats, and jobs building roads and railways. By and large, however, Alaska has many of the same jobs that are available in the lower 48 states. Teaching jobs are big. As Alaska?s population grows, the need for teachers is increasing rapidly. Government jobs make up a large part of the state's job force and economy. And because the road system has not expanded enough to include a driving route into Alaska, airline jobs are big.

Alaska's job market has gone through a few boom and bust cycles in the past, but it has been on the path toward stability, with a slow and steady increase and a variety of sources bringing in new jobs. The oil industry offers construction jobs and manager jobs. Jobs in Anchorage that always need staffing are health care jobs, accounting jobs and tech jobs. Juneau, the capital of Alaska, is where you will find the majority of government jobs. Another high-demand, high-salary field in Juneau is pharmaceuticals. Fairbanks is the largest city in the state and has more retail jobs than anywhere else.
